Have you ever stood on a coastline when the fog rolls in so thick you cannot see the hand in front of your face? Life often feels like that. We stand at crossroads career changes, family crises, or health scares and we are bombarded by "What ifs." What if I make the wrong choice? What if the worst case scenario happens? What if God does not show up?
Anxiety is like that fog; it does not actually change the landscape, but it hides the path, making us feel lost in a place we once knew. We try to lean on our own understanding, squinting into the grayness, trying to calculate every possible outcome. But the harder we squint, the more tired we become.
The Gospel does not promise that the fog will always lift instantly. Instead, it promises a Lightkeeper who knows the terrain perfectly. Jesus does not give peace as the world gives which is usually based on having all the answers. He gives a peace that exists despite the questions. When we stop trying to master the future and start trusting the Master of the moment, the "What ifs" lose their power. Your path is not made straight by your perfect planning; it is made straight by His sovereign hand.
